What I do

What I do

Help companies bridge the gap between technology and business by: explaining technology to a CxO in a way they can understand and can see the benefit; designing and architecting innovative but workable technology solutions to business problems and opportunities; and, developing and delivering marketing messages and presentations that convince.

The way I work

Two ways:

Where I’ve worked

SAP as a standards architect including: as SAP's WS-I Board Member and chair of the WS-I Sample Applications activity where I've been driving interoperability for Web services solutions between SAP, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and Novell; as well as chairing the RosettaNet Architecture Advisory council where we help set the standards technology and architecture direction for RosettaNet. I've also developed marketing materials - see Building Standards Based Business Applications that describe SAP's approach to SOA, Enterprise Services and standards. You can also read my SAP Developer Network (SDN) blog.

Commerce One a B2B eCommerce and composite process management software company where I held Director level positions in Product Management and Engineering. The role has been cross-functional including: marketing, product management, systems architecture, standards and sales support. This included supporting revenue of $100m (2000-01) by developing XML business document and standards for Commerce One's MarketSite platform

Mondex International, a financial smart card technology company where I was Development Director/Product Manager with responsibility for how electronic cash could be used for business to consumer payments on the Internet

Ernst & Young, a "big four" consultancy, where I conducted and managed a wide variety of assignments including: technical/application architecture, IT/IS strategy, project management, data mining systems, quality management, data distribution and capacity management. The market sectors in which I worked included: insurance, distribution, finance regulation, utilities, oil, entertainment, accountancy, legal and healthcare.
